Pediatric problem eating can lead to stressful mealtime environments for an entire family. Families tend to have significant difficulties improving the eating habits of their children without intervention. The focus of feeding therapy with problem eaters is to improve the relationship between the parent and child around the mealtime.

You are not a Human Resources Professional and have not had training on how to effectively hire employees, but at the same time hiring staff has been added to your plate. In this session, we will provide you with techniques and tools to excel in hiring staff, even though it’s not your job.

This course will provide an overview of the Spaced Retrieval Technique, which is an evidenced-based technique used to help persons with cognitive impairment recall important information and strategies for daily living and safety. Participants will learn the "nuts and bolts" of the technique and hear about case studies which utilized the technique during treatment.

Models of memory and neurophysiological structures and systems used in laying down memory will be reviewed. The four pronged approach of functional rehabilitation of memory for the individual with brain injury will be presented with real world examples, materials and strategies provided.

Personal experiences and examples will be shared to demonstrate how sensory-based thinking occurs in individuals with ASD. Domains of support in which therapists are often called to provide specific targeted education, treatment, and support will be reviewed. Research regarding the integration of factors contributing to social outcomes following childhood brain injury will be presented with real world examples, materials and strategies provided.

Updated information on mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) will be presented to include discussion of: 1) blast injury characteristics in civilians and military personnel, 2) promising neuroimaging methods for assessing mTBI, 3) evidence-based treatment appropriate for individuals with mTBI, and 4) future areas of research needed to better understand mTBI.

This presentation will address the implementation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). Topics covered will include who and what is covered by HIPAA, administrative safeguards and penalties for non-compliance.

This course will emphasize the critical role of emotional regulation in facilitating social and communicative competence in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Typical developmental sequences in emotional regulation will be reviewed along with the core developmental challenges in emotional regulation that are common in children with ASD. Practical supports to prevent behaviors that interfere with communication and social engagement during transitions, task engagement and emotional expression will then be highlighted.

The purpose of this presentation is to provide a functional model of the executive function skills. Based upon this definition professionals will learn specific therapeutic interventions to improve the following skills in patients: task initiation, organization and processing of information and self management of time, materials, tasks and personal and shared spaces.
