Course Abstract

Whether returning an injured worker to the workplace or keeping someone at their current job, proper positioning, education, and the proper use of tools and equipment through ergonomics is key to prolonging employment. Learn the underlying causes of injuries and how to apply body mechanics and ergonomic principles to benefit the entire workplace, from office to factory.

  • After this course, participants will be able to identify 4 basic ergonomic principles to use in the work place.
  • After this course, participants will be able to list 5 postures for desk workstations.

  • After this course, participants will be able to list 5 stretches to perform at the office to decrease fatigue and help to prevent injuries.

Amy Smith, OTR/L, CEAS, OTPP

Amy graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1986 with a B.S. in Occupational Therapy.  Amy has practiced OT in the Akron area for over 24 years, with a major focus on rehabilitation, both inpatient and outpatient, treating a wide variety of diagnoses.  For the past 8 years she has worked independently providing transitional work/on-site therapy to injured workers, including ergonomic assessments, functional capacity evaluations, and functional job analysis.
