Course Abstract

This presentation will describe the defining features and symptomology of ADHD in children as well as common school-related difficulties associated with the disorder. The CEU presentation will also highlight evidence-based interventions typically used in schools for children with ADHD and discuss the potential use of stability balls as a means of enhancing student’s on-task and in-seat/ball behavior in the classroom.

Course Learning Outcomes Preview Exam

  • After this course, participants will be able to list the types of ADHD as defined by the DSM-IV.
  • After this course, participants will be able to identify 2 comorbid disorders typically associated with ADHD.
  • After this course, participants will be able to describe typical school problems associated with ADHD.
  • After this course, participants will be able to identify one evidence-based intervention for children with ADHD.
  • After this course, participants will be able to select 2 documented outcomes of using a stability ball in the classroom for students with ADHD.

Alicia L. Fedewa, PhD, NCSP, Licensed Psychologist

 

Alicia Fedewa received her PhD from Michigan State University and completed her post-doctoral training in School Psychology at Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District outside of Houston, Texas. Her research interests include the relationship between curricular physical activity and children's academic, behavioral, and mental health outcomes.
