Course Abstract

Pediatric problem eating can lead to stressful mealtime environments for an entire family. Families tend to have significant difficulties improving the eating habits of their children without intervention. The focus of feeding therapy with problem eaters is to improve the relationship between the parent and child around the mealtime.

Course Learning Outcomes Preview Exam

  • The learner will be able to identify the developmental milestones of feeding related to problem eating.
  • The learner will be able to identify associated medical and developmental diagnoses that can lead to problem eating behaviors.
  • The learner will be able to identify symptoms related to problem eating.
  • The learner will be able to identify strategies to assist with introducing new foods and adding new foods to a child's diet repertoire.

Jennifer Dahms, M.S., CCC-SLP

Jennifer Dahms is a pediatric speech pathologist in Boise, Idaho. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. She has worked in pediatric outpatient clinics and Birth-to-Three programs in both Wisconsin and Idaho and currently has her own private practice, Valley Pediatric Feeding, LLC. Jennifer has dedicated her continuing education and professional focus on pediatric dysphagia. She has presented on pediatric feeding disorders at the Idaho Speech and Hearing Association's annual convention as well as at the Inter Mountain Area Speech and Hearing Convention in 2008. Jennifer also presented on pediatric feeding disorders in the schools at Idaho State University's Winter Symposium in 2009. She received ASHA's ACE award in 2010.
