Children with special needs are at an increased risk for injury when traveling in vehicles. Class participants will explore design features and accessories of car seats and large medical child safety seats that will improve positioning and safety during transportation.

This is the second course in a 2-part series that will provide clinical assessment tools and guidelines to utilize in the treatment planning for the upper extremity involved population. This session will focus on the screening and assessment of motion, sensibility, strength, and dexterity.

This course will provide an overview of driver rehabilitation as a specialty area in Occupational Therapy. The role of the generalist OT in discussing driving with their clients will also be covered.

This course will present alternate manual wheelchair drive mechanisms, including non-powered and powered options to increase manual wheelchair efficiency and decrease pain and injury risk. These drive mechanisms increase the force of each handrim stroke for increased travel as well as force to overcome slopes and uneven terrain.

The Lymphatic System, an important part of the Vascular and Immune System, relies on movements of the muscles and other vibrations within the body to transport and remove cellular matter for internal balance of fluid. Yoga supports decongestion through practice of whole body movements, breathing, and alignment techniques to support healthy circulation and waste removal.

This is the first course in a 2-part series that will provide clinical assessment tools and guidelines to utilize in the treatment planning for the upper extremity involved population. This session will focus on the screening and assessment of pain, wounds, scars, vascular, and edema.

This course will present an appropriate configuration of ultralight manual wheelchairs to optimize self-propulsion efficiency. Increased efficiency decreases the risk of repetitive stress injuries and pain, as well as improves function.

This presentation will explore the ergonomic risk factors associated with caring for a baby while looking at postpartum mothers as a specialized population. Practical strategies to prevent or reduce the occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders will be discussed.

Elder abuse and neglect and child abuse and neglect are harsh realities. This course will identify the physical, clinical, and behavioral indicators of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse needed to identify and report to appropriate agencies. Participants will gain an improved awareness of warning signs of abuse, the clinician's role in reporting abuse, and the steps for reporting abuse and getting proper assistance.

Wheelchair seating is designed to provide postural support and alignment, stability for function and mitigate pressure issues. This course will address assessment and intervention when working with a client who can only sit with the support of their hands, referred to as the ‘hands-dependent’ sitter.
