Can an occupational therapist have a private practice in psychiatric rehabilitation? Has anyone done this?

I would say broadly, yes, and a particularly good question to ask Dr. Anne MacRae, because I think she could even speak to this more than I can. There have been occupational therapists in my community in California who do have a private practice in psychiatric rehabilitation and sometimes they work with clients. They are living in either boarding care homes or in community apartments and they contract with agencies, county agencies usually, to provide occupational therapy services and sometimes people seek them out on their own. Some occupational therapists have a private practice or they will work with people with general problems they have with daily living and that perhaps might need a little more structured approach than a therapy approach, for example.

She has presented papers written from a psycho biographical perspective on the artist Georgia Okeeffe and the occupational therapist and primatologist, Dian Fossey.
