I absolutely loved this course!! Thank you Kathryn for putting us in your shoes and really helping us to see what life looks like through your lens. Though I know you don't want to hear that you're an inspiration for living life aka buying bread, you truly are an inspiration with your outlook on life and your strong and compelling advocation for the necessity of accessibility by helping others to see what life with OI looks like through your lens. Thank you for all that you do in OT community!

I LOVE the personal experiences tying all of this together, but most importantly the TRUTH behind it all. I remember going to a movie theater and they didn't have the caption devices charged or someone with knowledge to use them! I'm "legally deaf" and spent the whole movie guessing what was being said.

I love the perspective she gave from the point of view of a healthcare professional with a disability. I've always felt like I was more in tune with the needs of those with disabilities but after this course, I realized that there are still some things I can improve upon. The instructor's manner of teaching was great! I really enjoyed her sense of humor!

I truly enjoyed this course! Probably one of my favorites and I will be sure to pass this along to my OT team as well! I love that this included such a personal perspective and experience from Kathy. I say to keep going and teaching healthcare workers all over about the importance of disabilities and increasing awareness and understanding especially in the healthcare realm. I also really enjoyed that you included relationships with your family, your dating life and the positive and negatives.

I too have disabilities, acquired, and it’s amazing how I could be an OT and not be aware of disability inclusion until I myself experienced it. Everyone can benefit from increasing their awareness of how disability impacts a person, and health care providers NEED to/should be required to, in order to improve the healthcare experience of those of us with disabilities.

Things that made this very good: Perspective of someone who is an OT and has also lived this. Great examples to relate to and become more aware of after hearing them; then be able to broaden in other areas because of this awareness. Confidence by the presenter. Not shying away from hard aspects of this topic.

It made me rethink things that I have been doing at my job that was taught in school. For instance, I was taught to get down to wheelchair level when talking with someone, for better communication. However, the presenter helped me to realize that just because a person might be at a lower height than me, (mind you, I'm a disabled height of 5"9), they don't automatically need me to get down lower for communication. This course changed my perspective and I will absolutely be more mindful of this!

She seems offended when others try to be nice to her or considerate of how she might feel. She is offended when others claim or say positive things for her. My leg got run over by a car and was unable to walk and do a lot of things for several months myself. It was a very tough and humbling time but i didn't or never felt the need to blame non disabled people.

I truly enjoyed this course as the instructor taught DEI through her knowledge and expertise as an Occupational Therapist, and was able to share her own personal challenges in an authentic yet humerous way. Katheryn reminded me of why I chose to study OT 29 years ago as a second career. It was a decision made while working as a pharmacy technician for a major teaching hospital over 15 years that 2 patients with a great attitude in wheelchairs made a difference in my life!

I remember taking a client in a power chair 500+ feet down a sidewalk only to find a steel tie down in the way of completing our walk. There are so many things even therapists do not see in advance. I also have a former client who was stuck for weeks without his power chair due to parts not yet in or approval not yet received. It is nice to have things discussed, so we avoid patronizing talk in addition to this kind of stuff. I certainly hope I can pick up when I do this to patients.
