I am excited to be here with everybody, “virtually”.  I am based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and am excited that you are all able to view this through the power of technology.  Our topic today is “hiring for success” and strategies on how you can recruit successfully for your organization.  This presentation could also be titled, "How to Recruit Staff When It Is Not Your Job."  I am going to be focusing on some quick and easy strategies that you can use to hire, even though your primary responsibility might be in a different area, such as, actually treating patients.  You may not have a human resources or a recruiting background, but for whatever reason, you are put into a hiring position in your company.  We are going to be providing some tools that you can use to hire effectively and quickly.

Learning Objectives

We have five different things that were going to focus on.  We are going to be working through a traditional hiring process so that with each stage in the hiring process, you can understand what needs to be done and how you can perform those steps successfully.

We are going to talk briefly about the legal requirements.  As you probably know, there are many legal issues involved with hiring and interviewing. I am not a lawyer and this is not official legal advice, but I will be sharing some requirements and tips on how to legally interview and hire candidates.

We are also going to be talking about, just from the sourcing perspective, how do you attract top talent.  In many therapy disciplines, such as occupational therapy, there are candidate shortages.  Consequently, you may have an open position and have a very hard time finding qualified candidates for that opportunity.  You might post the position and have no one apply for a period of time.  You may have very few applicants to work with.  So, we are going to focus on making your employer, an employer of choice.  We are going to discuss how to go out and attract top talent via sourcing and recruitment strategies.

Next, we will focus on the interview process.  How do you interview for success and what are the different steps that you can take to interview effectively?

Finally, we will talk about how to successfully extend job offers to candidates.  What is the best way to offer a position to ensure that the candidate will accept?   How do you negotiate effectively?
