I loved the people-based approach and hearing concerns from an autistic person. Both presenters are empathetic to the populations they serve and I am interested in learning more about them. The podcast gave me a different perspective on things rather than a typical textbook approach which often lacks the input of neuro-diverse populations.

I really appreciated the intersectionality the presenter and the podcast host incorporated into this course. I liked the connection to research and different historical figures in OT and science. I found the use of examples of how to reframe our actions very useful and will be using them in my own practice.

The presenter gave her personal experiences of having ASD. For example, suggestions on how to change the environment for the child instead of how to change a child with ASD. Also interesting info that sensory strategies/treatments does not always help/change the sensory system for many children. I was hoping it was. Will definitely be educating myself more in the area.

As a school based occupational therapy assistant I have struggled so much personally with explaining the concept of neurodiversity to teachers/ paras working with autistic and neurodiverse children on my caseload. This podcast help to support my beliefs that we are expecting to much change from the person and not enough change with the environment to assist the person be productive with their day.

This podcast is a must listen for OT's working in disability or student support environments. I found this course enlightening and in many ways opening my perspective to varying treatment options, in a very positive direction. I looked at one if the exam questions as possibly unrealistic. It states that, the autistic community supports making the environment fit the child, rather than the child fit the environment. I do not believe this is always possible. I wonder if some coping strategies ,selected by the student, could be useful in bridging the environments, if the interest is there.

I understand the author's opinion being on the AU spectrum, but I disagree with an OT being able to make an impact on different sensory systems that are defensive and making an impact on neurological processes. Therapy should not be forced, but many can work through hyper-sensitivities and not just adapt the environment to the child/person with their sensory difference.

The information is good, generally speaking. Listening to the individual and learning from their perspective what role OT can play in their life is paramount to what we do. I'm not sure when this became an approach specific to a neuro-divergent affirming practice but rather a human affirming practice. It is a valuable reminder.
