This introductory course is designed to support occupational therapy practitioners in developing their role as fieldwork educators. This course highlights the educator component of the OT/OTA role, explores how occupational therapy beliefs, values, and principles align with key teaching and learning theories, and provides practical strategies to enhance student learning and clinical reasoning within practice settings. Participants will leave with tools to foster effective, student-centered fieldwork experiences that prepare the next generation of occupational therapy practitioners.

Elizabeth D. DeIuliis, OTD, OTR/L, CLA, FNAP, FAOTA, has been an occupational therapist for over 21 years. She is a Clinical Associate Professor and serves as Program Director at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She previously served as Academic Fieldwork Coordinator and has nearly two decades of experience developing fieldwork education programs. Dr. DeIuliis has earned degrees from Duquesne University and Chatham University and completed the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Academic Leadership Institute, earning the credential of academic leader. She is a Distinguished Fellow within the National Academies of Practice Occupational Therapy academy (FNAP) and was inducted to the Roster of Fellows within the American Occupational Therapy Assocation (FAOTA). She has published several textbooks, peer-reviewed publications, and continued education products. She has presented at state, national, and international conferences on fieldwork education, doctorate capstone, professionalism, interprofessional education, and teaching methodologies. Dr. DeIuliis continues to practice clinically per diem within the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC)Rehabilitation Institute at UPMC Shadyside Hospital.
