Course Abstract

Video Modeling is being used to teach many skills and behaviors by watching video demonstrations and then imitating the behavior modeled. It is being used to teach social skills, communication, cognitive skills, self care, motor skills and vocational skills. Not only is the video modeling an important tool for teaching a client, it is a valuable assessment and progress report tool as well as a valuable tool for self improvement and staff training. Video modeling is quick and easy to implement into your daily routine and results in changed behavior and success over a very short period of time with maintenance of skills obtained. This session will share information, research resources and case example videos on video modeling. You will learn about video editing on the computer and iPad and important strategies for successful implementation of video modeling in the classroom, in therapy, in the home and the community.

Course Learning Outcomes Preview Exam

  • After this course, participants will be able to list 3 different applications of video self modeling during therapeutic interventions.
  • After this course, participants will be able to identify evidence based research to justify the use of video self modeling.
  • After this course, participants will be able to identify a tutorial for further self-learning of capturing and editing video using iMovies on an iPad or Windows Movie Maker on a PC.
  • After this course, participants will be able to list resources for commercial products on video modeling.

The presenter was truly inspirational. It's great to see innovation in action. The presenter not only exhibited this, but her demeanor genuinely dem'd OT's "therapeutic use of self". The video clips were great. It is wonderful to imagine how Ally's life has positively changed as a result of the VideoModeling. Really nice presentation.

Cindy Nankee, OTR/L, ATP

Cindy is a Registered Occupational Therapist, ATP certified, DPI licensed in the state of Wisconsin and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.  Her background includes 25+ years as a school based OT and nine years with Wisconsin Assistive Technology Initiative (WATI).  She currently works as an independent consultant providing AT consultation and professional development for her company Universal Technology for Learning and Living (UTLL). Cindy also chairs the Wisconsin Assistive Technology Across the Lifespan Conference.  Cindy has published in the Handbok of Research on Human Cognition and Assistive Technology: Design, Accessibility and Transdisciplinary Perspectives, edited by Soonhwa Seok, Edward L. Meyen and Boaventura DaCosta.
