Hand, Upper Extremity, And Orthopedics CEU Courses for OTs

The Fugl-Meyer Assessment for the Upper Extremity (FMA-UE) is widely used as the gold standard in stroke research. Therapists will learn how to administer this standardized neurorehabilitation assessment of motor impairment for the hemiparetic arm and hand through detailed instructions and video demonstrations.

A review of the history, design, and clinical benefits of robotics in upper extremity treatment will be provided in this course. The knowledge needed to select a system for use and implementation in clinical practice based on the patient population will also be addressed.

Cultural humility and competence for occupational therapists in international and domestic therapeutic settings will be covered in this course. It will include experiential scenarios for providing services and outline skills used to maintain cultural sensitivity and competence while engaged in OT services.

A review of epidemiology, risk factors, and current practices for the treatment of Dupuytren’s disease will be discussed in this course. It will review current practice evaluation processes, as well as conservative and/or surgical intervention ideas for this condition for the return to independence with all meaningful occupations.

Poor posture, such as tech neck, has reached epidemic proportions, which can result in dysfunction and injury. Healthcare professionals have a unique role in educating patients about the hazards of poor posture. This presentation will discuss the current evidence and management strategies for tech neck as it applies to healthcare professionals.

The use of electrical stimulation with individuals post-stroke will be discussed in this course. Background information about electrical stimulators, their use, and practical tips in the clinic will also be provided.

Key considerations in the initial management, surgical interventions, and the essential role of occupational therapy in the comprehensive rehabilitation process for humeral fractures will be explored. Evidence-based approaches to maximize recovery, enhance mobility, and restore strength in patients with humeral fractures will also be discussed.

The anatomy of the humerus, the different types of fractures, and their underlying causes will be reviewed in this course.
