I think more use of examples in a clinic environment would be very helpful. I had the privilege of doing a lot of travel and I find I use this life experience in every interaction I have w clients now. Engaging your client, getting them onboard w their therapy is critical to success. And the best way to do this I by showing genuine interest in their life, their family, their foods, their beliefs. The reward for both therapist and client is remarkable.

The information was very beneficial. It was interesting that she told her own experiences with different setting and how the goals that we sometimes address are not always the priority of every culture. I liked the short interview information from the families to provide feedback regarding how therapy was given and how there are some things that therapists can do different to adapt to their culture.

I think the presenter could have included not only the importance of researching and talking to others who have experience with working with individuals of a certain culture but also taking the time to talk to individuals of a certain culture about their practices, beliefs, etc., rather than using outside sources to enhance learning.

First half was vague and too general / remedial - ex: of course we are aware of "conscious bias" and unaware of "unconscious bias"--that is explicit in the phrase - it would have been more helpful to hear the presenter's own set of biases (requires more vulnerability). I also thought that tips like "Don't develop stereotypes" was ridiculous--a more complex acknowledgement of the reasons for stereotypes would be better. Was shocked when she used "histrionic" to describe expressive communication.

i am biast.( i also can not spell) Raised in the 50s, my father was constantly pointing out to me the differances in people. But, for each "difference" he pointed out, I was to comment on something positive. i do get negative feedback from coworkers about coddeling those who do not easily "conform," but I am thankful that I can find a course such as this to enlighten others that "different" is not wrong. I also get flack from laughing too much. I hope I to find a course on laughter & endorphins!
