Long Term Care Facilities Acceptance of High Tech Devices

Question

Are LTC facilities receptive to high tech devices?

Answer

Every facility, environment and culture is different.  I would say some LTC facilities are more receptive than others.  There are also cultural differences between the nursing and rehabilitative staffs.  Nursing wants to provide care to the resident, whereas, a therapist wants the resident to be able to care for themselves if at all possible.  I think it is important to keep the staff involved in the process and educate them on the equipment.  Emphasize that the equipment is helping the resident to achieve their goals, feel better about themselves, and ultimately, decreasing the nursing workload.
