While it is widely accepted that elderly residents have trouble sleeping, what is understood about the nature of those sleep difficulties? Is disrupted sleep the cause or the effect of cognitive decline? of heart disease? of challenging behaviors? This course will discuss specific sleep challenges in the elderly as well as appropriate staff responses and treatment options. Specific discussion on sleep culture in our residential environments, and how can we improve our environments for sleep promotion.
