I am very much thankful for this presentation. Thank you for creating such a unique model and enlightening perspective regarding humans, our lives & factors, our environments, and the way these are all interconnected. The Kawa Model is a more holistic, expansive, open-minded, bird's-eye guide to working with people from a higher level of consciousness and discovering ways to help them go where they want to go, do what they want to do, and live how they want to live.

The simplicity by which the KAWA model presents how our own stories and our client's stories can be explained to guide effective change for positive and impactful interventions that matter, especially the aspect of flow and that one aspect affects all aspects and are inseparable as context.

I did appreciate this new model very much. It is so much more natural and personal and community oriented than the scientific model of the West that stresses minutes and money. I see this model with the eyes of a German that I am. The developer of the Kawa model sees himself as a servant leader which is wonderful. It shows humility. As a Christian I would put a cross in the middle of the model. Jesus was "the suffering servant". When we see ourselves as servants everything changes.

Enlightening thoughts about the original western model of OT having challenges in cross-cultural situations. The Kawa Model appears to bring down the barriers using a metaphor of life is like a river. Very identifiable.

It was helpful to read the different perspective of Japanese culture and Western culture as it related to defining OT. Being able to define OT is an ongoing dialogue that happens when defining how OT is applicable as a model of care plus adding the dimension of cultural differences .

I absolutely love the Kawa model!! The natural flow of the simple yet descriptive components, present comforting and and understated solutions to tackling positive, negative, challenges and tragedies in life. the solutions or methods, surrounded in a cloak of nature can dispell the stigma of getting help, and make things so easily understood.

Dr. Iwama clearly cares deeply about how occupational therapy can support people dealing with the inevitable disruptions to the flow of their lives. His perspective is useful to help us be open to how others view life and be able to help them in a culturally appropriate strengths-based, person-centered way. His metaphor of a river has been mentioned several times by other therapists and I have meant to explore this model a long time. The visuals helped a lot!
