Pediatric Acute Care Virtual Conference CEU Courses for OTs

The challenges neurodivergent children face in hospital settings are well documented by medical researchers, healthcare professionals, and autistic and/or ADHD individuals, themselves. Despite this, hospital personnel often fail to consider the unique sensory and communication needs of many neurodivergent children. Occupational therapy practitioners can improve outcomes by utilizing neurodiversity-affirming principles and advocating for more sensory-friendly hospital environments. This is Day 4 of the Pediatric Acute Care Virtual Conference.

The role of occupational therapy practitioners as members of an interdisciplinary team in adult acute care settings is well established; however, specific evidence-based discharge planning recommendations for pediatric clients are less known. This course explores recent literature describing the unique needs of children discharged from the hospital and calls for a family-centered, interdisciplinary approach. This is Day 5 of the Pediatric Acute Care Virtual Conference.

A brief overview of the bowel/bladder system, commonpediatric conditions that affect this system and the role of the occupational therapy practitioner in supporting this area of function in the acute care setting will be discussed. Associated equipment, procedures, daily care routines, and occupational profile considerations will be addressed. This is Day 3 of the Pediatric Acute Care Virtual Conference.

The role of OT in sexuality and intimacy, specifically in the pediatric acute care setting, will be addressed in this course. Content will include tools and skills for the generalist and an introduction to specialist-level OT services for this occupation. This is Day 2 of the Pediatric Acute Care Virtual Conference.

An overview of the role of occupational therapy in pediatric acute care will be addressed in this course. This course focuses on the occupational therapy process in the pediatric acute care setting, including evaluation and intervention and the role of the occupational therapy practitioner on the interprofessional care team.
