How Do You Make Vision Referrals For Someone Wishing To Return To Work?

Elsa Zavoda, MS, OTR/L, SCLV, CLVT

December 19, 2016

Question

How do you make vision referrals for someone wishing to return to work?

Answer

There is a Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in each of your states. There is often funding for people of vocational age to return to work or to be able to develop skills to participate in a new vocation after they have had vision loss or a physical injury. Investigating these options on behalf of your patients would be very helpful in order to provide them with resources. You can also incorporate vocational training into your rehab. Returning to work can be very empowering and can capitalize on people's strengths. Typically, they have strengths that they have developed, and this can be very useful in helping them in their rehab course as well.
