Participants will explore strategies for translating clinical expertise into effective teaching practices, navigating academic culture, and supporting student learning and professional behaviors. Emphasis is placed on practical tools, common challenges, and best practices to support a successful transition from clinical practice to academia.

Dr. Pitts earned his BS degree in Health Science from Florida A&M University in 2015. He then earned his Master of Occupational Therapy from Florida A&M University in 2018. He has experience in multiple practice areas, including Early Intervention (EI) to older adults across a multitude of settings. In 2020, Dr. Pitts discovered that taking and mentoring fieldwork students was rewarding and decided he wanted to have a greater impact on OT. This experience prompted him to pursue his Doctorate of Occupational Therapy from Nova Southeastern University. He graduated with his Doctor of Occupational Therapy (Dr.OT) in 2023 and served as the Assistant Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for Nova before returning to Florida A&M University.
