The presenter was kind in reminding us of the unconscious nature of our biases and that we need to reflect on ourselves so that we can be more open to others who we assist/work with/and engage with in our “community”, and world. It is a life long reflective activity of our own character.

While the instructor was pleasant and articulate. The context was lacking, and slanted. While I value the importance of implicit bias training, I felt this course placed disproportionate emphasis on bias toward Black individuals, with three slides dedicated to Black–White comparisons and minimal coverage of other forms of bias (e.g., against different ethnicities, religions, socioeconomic groups, or appearances). This focus risked implying that most White individuals inherently view them.

Nearly all bias examples and activities addressed in the course were tied to very specific racial and gender biases. This makes it very difficult to generalize the lesson for daily use in the healthcare setting.

The presenter provided good definitions and breakdowns of some of the terminology used. It enabled me to understand the difference in terms a bit better because of them can be confusing. I also liked that she explored different types of bias i.e: affinity, gender and confirmation bias. I had been unfamiliar with those prior. She also listed some good resources for further exploration on the topic which I appreciate. I would take another course by her again.
