Question
Which standardized tool is used to evaluate a client's occupational performance in their home? What other items would you put in a kit to do an evaluation?
Answer
I typically use the PASS-Home. I like the PASS-Home because it is standardized and it breaks down the activities into each individual part. Also, it is criterion referenced, meaning each of the different tasks has been evaluated independently from the others. For example, I can take out specific activities that the client has identified as being problematic and be able to use the standardization in that, without taking out the properties of that particular tool. When you take a standardized tool, and if you only take parts of it out, and it is not criterion referenced, then you lose the standardization for it. Also, if there are norms associated with it then the norms no longer apply.
I have a tool kit that I bring with me, because sometimes I may go in and something may be loose in a client's home, and I might need to tighten it for them. For example, a lot of times toilet seats are loose, so I will tighten that for them. In my kit, I always keep a tape measure available. I have a lot of evaluation tools on my tablet and I also use my tablet for documentation so I keep my tablet in my kit. Also, I will use a noise meter.
