Question
How long should stabilization tape be applied for scapular stabilization?
Answer
As far as initial treatment, one to two days, and if they tolerate it well, then they can keep it up to three days. I can remember two patients who kept it on a whole week and did fine. Typically after three days, this getting sweaty and gummy and can irritate your skin. It is important when they take the tape off to do it slowly and you take the skin from the tape. It is not the Band-Aid approach, where you just rip it off. Sometimes with people with more sensitive skin, people who have freckles and more reddish hues to their skin, I put skin prep on there first, let it dry, and then apply the tape. You can also use Milk of Magnesia. Everyone wonders why we have Milk of Magnesia in our closet. You can put that on, let it air dry, and then apply the tape.
