What key general observations should therapists note during a readiness screening?
Answer
Key general observations provide immediate insight into a child’s social and emotional readiness and their approaches to learning. Therapists should note what happens when they come to the door: Do they separate from their parent? Is there eye contact? You should also observe their temperament and style, noting whether they appear to understand directions. If they are hesitant, restless, tearful, or scared, this is also worth noting. These notes on a child's engagement and persistence, similar to their temperament, are vital for understanding how they will approach learning new things.
