Realizing that 300 million people are effected by mental illness and that 70% of them hold jobs and are able to manage their symptoms. Also, learning that the words used can greatly influence perception of the diagnosis. And also, the importance of equitable and inclusive care for all.

Sharing the example exercise at the end (Core Beliefs about Emotions) as a way to engage with the material was helpful for personal use and or use in mentoring others. The diagram of the EQ Quadrants gave a concise description of EQ. The metaphor of DEI being like a party and the visual image of the people looking over the fence as an example of equality vs equity were both helpful in describing and explaining these concepts. Finally having the resources articles and citations was important.

I tend to have implicit bias against all things diversity, equity, and inclusion. I chose this course as I was looking for information on mental health. The presenter made the topic very accessible. I did not feel shamed when receiving the information. I learned a great deal and am feeling a bit more open minded about DEI today!

You don’t see many courses like this. This should be taught everywhere. I work in a psychiatric hospital and the patients of color constantly complain about not feeling included and accuses the doctors if not treating g them fairly. The doctors are more afraid of the patients who are darker than they are.

This is the first time I've seen words matter. The way I approach my patients is that they matter, regardless of attitudes or nurses saying good luck with that one. I somehow am able to work with any individual, even the "hardest to get along with". I believe mental disorders go way under diagnosed, and some patient's just require more time and understanding to accept their situation. I appreciated this course. Thankyou for not making it boring.

The instructor covered some important and helpful content. Maybe because it's part of a series, she didn't provide much that was specific to implicit bias, i.e. data on how it impacts mental health care, or specific ways to improve. The presentation style could be more engaging, since she mostly read from the slides. She also didn't seem to provide any way for the original viewers to interact with her during the presentation, except for a brief Q & A time at the end.
