I highly respect the speaker, having seen several of her other courses, but I think she needs to address the damage that can be done by ignoring a child. Ignoring them is teaching them.... what, exactly? That you don't listen to their mode of communication, because your mode is better than theirs? What if it's the only mode of communication they know? How about teaching replacement behaviors? How about co-regulation? This course should be updated with more current trauma-informed information.

This course was very applicable to my practice setting and the majority of my caseload. Many of my clients are on the waiting list for ABA therapy and often times behaviors impede progression with occupational therapy goals. This course was very helpful in understanding how to guide client through transitions and non-preferred activities from a behavioral perspective and incorporate such strategies discussed to decrease negative behaviors such as tantrums and outbursts.

I appreciated that the presenter validated my unpleasant experiences with ABA therapists and described the differences between the 2 professions so that I had a better understanding of why previous ABA therapists had those unpleasant experiences with me. The way in which the presenter reviewed the ABA principles, included OT concerns into an ABC model, and gave examples was extremely helpful and useful.

The relevance of this course with pediatric settings moving forward. In my personal experience ABA moved in after OT/PT/ST had been established with a set of children and rocked the boat on everything we had been working on. I wish I had this course prior to the introduction of ABA therapy in my caseload to know how more about their practice and how to collaborate more effectively.

I question whether it is appropriate to remove a reinforcer from the parents' tool box in order to make it a therapist's reinforcer - need to consider how useful is that activity or reinforcer at home before assming it won't add stress to the family.
