I work in an acute inpatient psychiatric setting. I am familiar with many of the techniques that Zara talked about, but there was definitely some new information and techniques that I picked up from this course. The speaker was so knowledgable and passionate about the content presented. Mental health is such an integral part of OT and the human experience, and I think this presentation provided beneficial tools to implement with clients, regardless of the practice setting.

I currently work with clients who have chronic mental illness including but not limited to Bipolar, Schizophrenia, major depression..... and many of these clients also suffer from complex PTSD - chronic long standing trauma from childhood and adult issues or some from combat in the armed services. I have used my OT skills in helping them cope by finding purposeful activities to do daily. This course helped clarify and give me a better understanding of how i can help them.

The instructor did a very good job, explaining the very basic understanding of the role of occupational therapy and trauma related fields. I wish if that would be a part two of this course that would demonstrate the various trauma responses, and how to address each and how they might appear throughout the occupational therapy session.
