A handy, concise, quick reference guide for occupational therapists to perform systemic differential diagnosis of patients suffering from neck and shoulder pain. Children with learning disabilities often struggle in multiple areas of occupational performance. This course helps with understanding the characteristics and treatment of learning disabilities and ADD/ADHD in the pediatric population. Throughout this course, we will focus on practical treatment ideas to improve outcomes. Goal writing while considering the utilization of a strengths-based approach is discussed.

This course will offer options, materials, information, and education about how to facilitate emergency preparedness in clients and caregivers and how to potentially help keep clients safer. We will discuss our roles for various emergencies, including in the home, in the community, large-scale emergencies, and natural disasters; resources will be shared both for OT professionals and to share with clients/caregivers.

The after-effects of the world shut down due to COVID has impacted our school-aged children in ways that inhibit them from fully engaging in the occupation of being a student. Emotional dysregulation, decreased academic performance, delayed fine and visual motor skills, as well as impaired social skills, are just a few of the issues our students are battling against in this era.

Children often struggle with fidgeting, attention deficits, and immature motor patterns which manifest themselves through frustration, sensory, and behavior issues. The optimal function of our bodies occurs when our sensory and motor systems are strong and able to adapt to the demands of the environment. Lack of movement opportunities and the use of electronic devices at a young age both affect the development of patterns used in the occupation of children. Occupational therapists can easily build-in assessment of body and segmental movement and posture. This session provides strategies for assessment and introduces treatment ideas for using movement to improve performance in occupation.

Therapy practitioners serve an important role for older adults amidst COVID-19 as we address ADL, safety, quality of life, mental health, and other areas directly impacted by this virus. Our contribution to the at-risk population of older adults is important and invaluable.
