Definition of the Behavioral Approach of Embedding

George Fluharty, M.A., CCC-SLP

March 18, 2013

Question

Can you give an overview of the technique of embedding?

Answer

Embedding is a behavioral approach where the "caregivers embed non-preferred activities within preferred ones, engaging clients in enjoyable activities before making demands on them.  Once clients are in a good mood, they may carry out tasks they would otherwise refuse; they are also less likely to be aggressive."
