It was beneficial to understand the amount of time and effort goes into caregiving for these patients because we often think mostly about the patient themselves and how greatly it affects their abilities and oftentimes mental health, but how this affects the lives and possibly mental health of a caregiver greatly as well.

OTR/L, Alaena McCool did a fabulous job presenting all of the considerations when becoming a formal or informal caregiver for a client with a SCI Injury. I appreciated her going over when a patient has an injury to their cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and/or sacral spine, what function they still have, for example, what muscles are innervated, the ADL's they can do and mobility they still have or don't. It is such a big undertaking becoming someones caregiver, especially when you are unpaid.
