I, as an interpersonal, humanistic, behaviorist found the course supportive and at the same time like a new language. For example, a trigger can be anxiety, fear, confusion, and a major challenge to who is in control of the session - many children with disabilities suffer from learned helplessness as a form of escape from any task. So, there are trigger that are external, and triggers that are organic ( stem from inside the body, e.g. hunger). I have some more research to do on this subject.

As an OT who has worked in the field for over 38 years this was not new information for me. However, I thought it was well organized and presented in 2 hours by Tara. Definitely an informative class for therapists to better understand how to best work with kids and behavior, and in instructing others (teachers/parents) on how to work with these kids. I agreed with all of the information.

I love how this felt more like a conversation instead of a lesson. Instead of focusing on the behavior, the focus was on how therapists can make their environment more comfortable for students with consistent behavior issues. Very heavy ABA focus (which she acknowledged). I wish there was more focus on building intrinsic motivation than so much extrinsic like token boards. And more on the potential "whys" of behavior that was not straight from ABA. Some helpful reminders/nuggets of info but overall felt like a BCBA telling me how great *new* ABA is. (For reference I've worked in bad compliance ABA schools and still believe some behaviorism strategies can work for some kids). I've liked her other courses so disappoint
