This seems to be more of an introductory class than intermediate. Valid and good information, but likely not a ton of new information to learners seeking intermediate level classes.

Although this was only a two hour course which limits information given, it was disappointing when instructor would say “ More about this later” but never get back to it. The assessment portion was very short and not one standardized assessment was listed, rather a web address given to look up a list. Instructor did not even list what she uses.

This course was not neurodiversity affirming in any way. The methods continued to repeat using candy and food as rewards. The methods were like DOG training, instead of taking into consideration sensory processing, self or co-regulation skills, or the individual's autonomy. I work at a pediatric outpatient clinic, and I would not use this in my practice.

This presentation does not discuss the positivity of neuro divergence and accepting those with autism and utilizes principles that teach children with autism foundational skills through ableism which research shows is more traumatic to autistic children. I felt very bad when reading about teaching a child to sit. We should be using child led approaches this presentation did not teach that.

I think the course instructor needs more training on strengths-based strategies for treating individuals on the spectrum. Teaching normative "social skills" is not conducive to long-term mental health of neurodiverse individuals. I was hoping that there would be more information about teaching actual skills such as ADLs and IADLs for the school environment and not ABA strategies/"social skills" that are covered by other professionals in the school.

The course was organized and the learning outcomes were met. However, I strongly disagreed with some of the content taught in the course. I was shocked that the presenter is teaching that positive reinforcement is the only way to teach motivation; how about helping children understand the purpose behind an activity and use of meaningful occupations! I was also surprised with the emphasis that a child must sit when there are so many flexible seating options, including standing, available now.
