An overview of the “hidden sense” of interoception is reviewed in this course. The impact of interoception on daily life will be discussed. Emphasis will be on using the current evidence to address interoception during occupational therapy intervention.

A general overview of the history of OT in mental health and practice indications. More specifically, this course will inform OTPs of common practice settings, the clinical presentation which includes common diagnoses, impairments, and impact on areas of occupation, different assessment tools and evidenced-based treatment interventions, and desired OT functional outcomes.

Poor posture, such as tech neck, has reached epidemic proportions, which can result in dysfunction and injury. Healthcare professionals have a unique role in educating patients about the hazards of poor posture. This presentation will discuss the current evidence and management strategies for tech neck as it applies to healthcare professionals.

When approaching everyday pediatric occupational therapy practice through a trauma-informed lens, it is critical to view every moment of contact with a client as both assessment and intervention. Through lecture, conversation, and analysis, participants will deepen their skill set of intentional nonverbal observations and interventions that support the process of standardized evaluation and clinical observations.

A holistic occupational therapy approach to the treatment of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), including a demonstration of breathing and progressive relaxation techniques to address multiple systems involved in EDS, will be discussed in this course. This course will also focus on assessing appropriate, functional, and practical hand orthoses for clients with hypermobile EDS who may require multiple orthoses to stabilize joints of the hand and digits.

Participants will gain insights into recognizing indications for Total Shoulder Arthroplasty (TSA), distinguishing between diverse pathologies, and understanding conditions warranting TSA intervention. Additionally, attendees will hone their skills in conducting thorough pre-operative assessments for patients slated for shoulder arthroplasty, enhancing their proficiency in guiding optimal patient care pathways. This is Part 1 of a 2-part series.
