This collaborative seminar provides therapists with an understanding of the pharmacology of cardiac conditions and the impact on patient’s functional outcomes and rehabilitation process. Pulmonary conditions and the medications involved are explored for a proper understanding of how to increase the therapeutic process.

This course offers a closer look at the benefits and inherent risks associated with the application of dynamic splinting in conjunction with specific population groups. Specific methods and applications are discussed for use with clients who present with long-term dynamic splinting needs.

Therapists learn to conduct effective interviews and documentation strategies related to reporting medical concerns to the quality care team, other team members, the patient, and the physician.

Mindfulness can be a really powerful cognitive-behavioral tool and has many relevant applications when treating patients with pain, especially chronic pain. Many courses for rehabilitation professionals teach guided meditation, which is an amazing tool. However, mindfulness has many other applications and opportunities for use in the treatment of patients with pain. This session discusses the history and science behind mindfulness, as well as provides a variety of practical mindfulness tools for the everyday practitioner.

This course reviews the world of dynamic splint fabrication and application via an examination of the methods associated with fabricating and/or implementing dynamic elbow splints to manage a client’s elbow and forearm-based range of motion, support, and joint protection needs. Custom and pre-fabricated designs are discussed and compared.

In this edition, we highlight Dr. Regula Robnett's career and contributions to occupational therapy. Dr. Robnett is a fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association and has had a distinguished career as an occupational therapy clinician, professor, mentor, and researcher, with strong expertise in gerontology. She is the author of the book Gerontology for the Health Care Professional which is now in its 4th edition (Robnett et al., 2020). This course is part of a quarterly series on OccupationalTherapy.com designed as a salute to the OT pioneers with contributing editor Dr. Franklin Stein. It is presented in an engaging Q & A format and highlights the OT pioneer's journey into occupational therapy and research accomplishments.

Following a brief anatomical review of hand structures in order to ensure understanding of the theory, purpose, and methods behind many dynamic splint designs, Dr. Davin offers a comparison of the qualities of static splinting as compared to dynamic splinting. An overview of various dynamic splinting options is introduced and serves to build foundational knowledge as it relates to dynamic splinting in preparation for upcoming courses within this series.

It is estimated that 50% of women experience some degree of pelvic organ prolapse (POP). This introductory course advances the understanding of POP and introduces treatment techniques for this growing patient population.

This course looks at entry-level knowledge of primitive reflexes. Participants will identify retained reflexes and utilize strategies to support integration to facilitate child development.
